Background

As a young child in Indianapolis I took art lessons from renown still artist Browne Beck. That certainly gave me a sense of space, shading, color and form. In high school I majored in mechanical drafting and architecture.

Desktop Publishing

In the early nineties when desktop publishing became a household word, as a primary care-giver, I bought into a franchise out of Ottawa, Canada called Digital Design Desktop Publishing.

I operated Digital Design from a home-based office. One of the requirements to become "Digital Design SE" was to get a Mac-based system, and I opted for a Mac SE-30 with pivot monitor and state-of-the art laser printer. Tutored and self-taught, I learned and excelled at FreeHand, PageMaker and several other graphic, word processing and publishing software. While paste-up and layout was what most of my work entailed, I truly enjoyed lettermark/logo work. Currently I primarily use Adobe Photoshop, MGI PhotoSuite and Microsoft Paint.

Scanning

One of many services offered -- commercial and private customers alike -- is scanning, editing, cropping and formatting of your graphic documents (photos, mementos, documents, etc.). If you send your pictures or pages to be processed they will gently be turned into electronic versions with the capability of additional picture manipulation as required (see Image Restoration below). As a genealogist for 25+ years and coin collector for much, much longer, I have an appreciation and respect for special materials that need "kid glove" handling, and will treat your pictures, documents or personal heirloom respectfully and appropriately. While on site, all items are kept safely in a climate-controlled environment. Output image choices are .bmp, .jpg, .gif, .tif (single or multi-page), and .png. Items can be emailed to you directly, placed on our server for FTP extraction or placed on a CD or DVD medium for return with your original items.

I have been scanning professionally and as a family archiver and Desktop Publisher/Paste-up Layout Artist for over twenty years.

Image Manipulation

We can scan take your preexisting or scanned artwork and restore it to nearly "like-new" condition using software products at our disposal. These features include:

  • Cropping
  • Touch-up
  • Straightening
  • Color enhancement
  • Special Borders and Effects
  • After processing, the art and their electronic equivalents are dutifully returned to you. I am pleased to provide a very personalized service on this.
